Arguably Sir Gary Sobers is the finest all rounder the game has ever seen. I remember watching highlight of 1971-72 test match between Australia and Rest of the World. Dennis Lillee was at his brutal best. He dismissed Sobers twice for naught bowling short deliveries at sheer pace and used abhorrent words to the great mean. In the next innings, Sobers silenced Lillee by scoring an unbeaten 250 odd runs, smashing Lillee all over the park. Sobers ensured he didn't get out to Lillee again in the series. One of the infamous lines said by Sobers to Lillee when he kept bowling short pitch stuff to him. "Man, I can bowl short too and I am a much better batsman than you." What a battle it must have been between the greats. I so wished i was born in that era.
ReplyDeleteNo question about it. Gary Sobers is the best allrounder ever. An all-time great batsman, genuine fast bowler, medium-pace swing, slow-left-arm orthodox as well as chinaman, a brilliant fielder anywhere. Held the record for the highest score and aggregate in Test cricket, and the first to hit 6 sixes in an over in first-class cricket. A genius.
